The Dojo is a Japanese term which literally means “place of the way” Initially, dōjōs were adjunct to temples. The term can refer to a formal training place for any of the Japanese do arts but typically it is considered the formal gathering place for students of any  Japanese  martial Art’s style such as karate, judo, or samurai, to conduct training, examinations and other related encounters.

The dojo is based in Mallusk Newtownabbey, just outside Belfast. The home of the dojo is 51 Mallusk Road , Newtownabbey, Antrim. The Dojo is Run by Danny Corr and is the first and only functional martial arts and fitness gyms in the area. Danny has almost 31 years experience in martial arts, backed up with qualifications in fitness and nutrition, first aid and the ACS in coaching studies.

A 4th Dan in karate jutsu under the BCA’S Peter Consterdine, Geoff Thompson and Iain Abernethy, Danny has an unprecedented wealth of experience in the world of competition both as a coach and a fighter. Danny competed in sport karate at international level for Northern Ireland and Great Britain and fought in many mixed rules tournaments before the phrase mixed martial arts (MMA) became commonly used.

Current Irish team sport Jujitsu coach, Danny has trained not only himself to the world standard, but has coached all levels of individual and teams from raw beginner to international competitors.

A former Ulster,Northern Ireland, Great British and current 2 time world sport jujitsu champions, Danny’s credentials are second to none.

Training programmes devised by Danny are wide ranging from the first ever karate jutsu “After schools ” programmes for primary schools, the first ever karate jutsu programme for adults with learning difficulties to individual training programmes for anti-bullying for children and fitness regimes for adults.

Awarded numerous accolades for his services to the community and sport Danny was inducted into the sporting hall of fame in 2011 alongside the footballing  great George Best. A first for a martial artist in Northern Ireland. Other awards include Barclay’s award for coaching. The Sir Ken Bloomfeild award for sporting excellence, and sports person of the year.

Danny has now opened the Dojo fully kitted ZKJ gym in Mallusk.

After forming Zanshin karate Jutsu in 1998 the goal was always to provide a unique and fully operational gym to promote all aspects of karate jutsu. The goal has been reached now the dojo is fully open and Danny coaches at the gym almost every day of the week alongside the other ZKJ coaches and is available for private training.
