It's Sunday again and as always the thought of 4pm training is exciting, even at my age. It's always painful but most importantly it's always enjoyable. Over the last few months we have simply concentrated on sparring, stand up and wrestling mostly, sort of reflecting what we are doing in class throughout the week. Sunday is a great format to test what works for you.
Although Sunday does not give anyone an option to slink into the background the humour and comaradery of everyone training makes it easy to see the 2 solid hours disappear very quickly.
Today is going to be about the speed and power so I have some surprises for the gang, no real sparring today just 2 hours of sheer work, power bags, plyometrics and explosive lifting...may even have a wee trip on the SAQ Ladder...but don't want to give too much away before 4.
Now the too early bit is relating to my long weeks. about 3 months ago I decided to bite the bullet and go to our Gym at 6am to start training off for the day. Of course I wan't alone Big Rowan is always a partner, and so too has Mr Whinnery and the likes. All attending for different reasons Rowan is keeping himself in shape should a fight come on the horizon, me, I need to get my mind into a place where I can confidently focus on the World Championships in September. You may think starting a regime in January is a bit extreme for something in September, however for me it's all part of my own build up..which to be honest is more mental than physical...getting up at 5:30am to go training then getting the family out to school, heading to work, then taking classes each night from 6:30pm-10pm will in my opinion builds a resolve and a mindset which is truly and totally Mental..just what's needed to fight!!
